Receiving your AVS/AI pension in Tunisia

Settling in Tunisia for retirement raises a legitimate question: will you keep receiving your AVS pension (and AI where applicable)? Good news: the Swiss first pillar is designed to be paid abroad.
The AVS old-age pension is paid abroad
The AVS pension (1st pillar) is in principle paid worldwide, including in Tunisia. A social security convention between Switzerland and Tunisia facilitates this payment. Abroad, your pensions are managed by the Swiss Compensation Office (SCO) in Geneva.
AI pension and other pillars
The AI (disability insurance) is subject to stricter export rules outside the EU/EFTA, depending on the applicable convention. The 2nd pillar (LPP/BVG) and 3rd pillar can generally be received or paid out subject to your pension institutions’ conditions.
